Pride and Prejudice Meets Dolce and Gabbana In this Atlanta Wedding

It was Pride and Prejudice meets Dolce and Gabbana for Amber and Jairus’s Atlanta wedding.

The 2005 Pride and Prejudice is Amber’s favorite movie, so they recreated a modern version of the all-white ball for their spring wedding at Biltmore Ballrooms. Their love story is similar to Lizzy and Darcy’s, with Jarius quietly and consistently pursuing Amber for several years throughout high school and college. Amber finally said “Yes!” to Jarius asking for a chance and then said “Yes!” again later when he asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. The whole wedding party was styled to slay with old-world elegance given a fresh and modern touch. Amber was inspired by the regal feel of Dolce and Gabbana and created stunning one of a kind floral headpieces for all of her bridesmaids. And there were no basic black tuxes for the groomsmen either, with each donning custom cream jacquard suits. The reception channeled the Regency ballroom vibes with elegant floral arrangements atop columns and charming birdcage centerpieces. All of the stunning florals were DIY’d by the bride with faux flowers, which you never would have guessed by looking at the luxe result! The night ended with a dessert table spread that would be sure to impress Jane Austen herself.

From the couple:

How did you meet?

Amber Brianna Spence was in the 6th grade when she met Jairus Lamont Reed. Young and free they became great friends, but Amber was keeping a secret. She had a huge crush on Jairus! Keeping this secret for 3 years, Amber became less fond of sweet Jairus, and more fond of bad boys! 9th grade year was amongst them and Amber and Jairus reconnected their friendship. While attending different high schools, Jairus feelings towards Amber began to turn into something more. Amber, aware of Jairus feelings, ignored all signs and left him on read, repeatedly! But, this didn’t stop Jairus! For five years straight Jairus would message Amber and ask how she was doing, tell her she’s beautiful, and Happy Birthday! He was very consistent! And despite how Amber was acting, Jairus felt like Amber was the one! And, he made it his mission to get Amber’s attention so he can get just one chance. February 7th, Jairus sent his annual Happy birthday message to Amber. It was that day Jairus asked Amber to give him one chance, and if he messes up he won’t ever talk to her again!

What is your proposal story?

I originally planned to propose to Amber during a “surprise birthday party” that she was throwing for me but, she unexpectedly ended up spending a week in the hospital. Her mom was hosting a Christmas gala the same day Amber got out of the hospital, so with the help of her mom, aunts, and my mom I decided to propose then.  That night after beginning to sing “This Christmas”, I stopped and asked Amber if she remembered the day I asked her to give me one more chance, then I proposed.

Tell us a little bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).

We were inspired by Amber’s Favorite movie, Pride and Prejudice. Specifically the 2005 movie version. The scene with Jane attending an all white ball! Our story is very similar to Mr.Darcy and Jane but the tables were definitely turned! Amber was Mr.Darcy! Amber also loves the regal feel of Dolce and Gabbana hence the floral headpieces! So we were giving you All shades of white Pride and Prejudice meets Dolce and Gabbana.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I wore an off the shoulder Rita Vinieris gown with flutter sleeves. My favorite detail was the floral headpieces I made for each of my bridesmaids. They were all unique and gave that regal Dolce and Gabbana feel I was wanting.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Reciting the vows that we wrote to each other was the most memorable moment. We also loved the first dance! And hearing the speeches of our parents!

Describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

Amber did all the headpieces herself, as well as the floral arrangements not only for the bridesmaids but for the birdcages and centerpieces as well!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

There’s going to be something that goes wrong! Breathe and remember the why which is, 1. Why are you there 2. Why him/her 3. And why now
