York Manor Wedding
Nicole and Jose got married at The York Manor in Los Angeles. The bold red door caught their attention, but it was the modern take on the vintage space that they fell in love with. Their day was filled with lots of traditions, natural bright light, and romantic touches.
How did you meet?
We first met at a high school dance in 2000. Ten years later we reconnected, via Facebook, and had a chance meeting watching the Lakers game at Big Wang’s in Hollywood,CA
What is your proposal story?
We went on a road trip to lower antelope canyon in Page,AZ and Zion National Park in Utah. While we were in Page we went to Horseshoe Bend. We were enjoying the most beautiful view when before I knew it, Jose was down on bended knee and I lost my mind!!!!
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.
We really tried to create a modern twist on a traditional and romantic wedding. We always knew we wanted to be married by the Catholic Church. We chose Blessed Sacrament because that’s where Jose went to grade school and Nicole was impressed by its beauty. We chose the York Manor because we felt it was the perfect cancan for our vision. It is a refurbished Church that has a beautiful white walls and a gorgeous outdoor area. It was light and bright and would go well with our blush and peach tones.
Tell us about your attire choices.
I was going for a romantic feel that made me feel sexy.
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
We both made a list of top 3 must haves the top choice for each of us was what we splurged or spent the most time curating. Nicole’s top choice was florals and Jose’s was music.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Favorite part was the priest announcing us as husband and wife for the first time and everyone clapping for us. It was a beautiful moment.
Tell us about your wedding flowers.
The flowers were Nicole #1 must have for our wedding that she was willing to spend the most on. We got Really lucky with our florist, Marisa. She really listened and was able to execute all of my dreams and vision. My bouquets brought tears to my eyes and was all of my peony dreams come true. It was so soft and romantic and smelled heavenly. The center pieces at our repetition helped set the mood and the tone for the evening.
Tell us about your wedding cake.
We went to one cake tasting! Haha we really couldn’t believe it but Susiecakes in Studio City, CA really one Us over. It was a 3 tiered dream that was delicate and romantic with fresh peonies as accents. We opted for simple signage as our topper.
What did you do for favors?
We decided to do a photo booth and printed out photos for our guests with our Name and wedding date. We thing it is a sweet momento that guests will enjoy.
Describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.
We really handpicked every last detail of our wedding together so we hope that each of our guests was able to see us in every aspect of our wedding. The dessert sign was hand made by one of Nicole’s dearest friends. The sign is now on display in our home. We also did a surprise dance that incorporated Jose’s daughter, Lyla! It was a mix of Old Town Road/ Dura (reggaeton) and it was a huge hit!!!! It’s our favorite moment of our wedding.
Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?
Our church ceremony was filled with Mexican and Catholic traditions such as arras and laso which are given to us by God-parent that we have chosen to lead through the sacrament of marriage. During our reception we did a traditional Mexican dance called “ La víbora de la mar”. During the dance, the bride and groom stand on chairs and try to hold on to each other as the wedding party dances in a line trying to knock them down.
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Take your time! Make lists of absolute must haves and do withouts! Yes it can be stressful at time but cherish every second with your soon to be spouse. It all goes by so quickly.
