Vendor Spotlight – Natalie from Cake Envy, Georgia.
When I first saw the cakes made by Natalie from Cake Envy, I was immediately taken back by the beauty and attention to detail she puts into each one. She has the ability to take her clients dreams and whip them up into a sweet baked reality.
Natalie, who is also a lifetime member of our Vendor Directory, was kind enough to sit down with us and give us a little inside look at what she does and why she loves her job so much. Once you read her responses, you will see exactly why her clients choose her.
Couples who hire her are not only getting her years of experience, but, they get the pleasure of working with someone who truly cares about what they want and knows how to make it happen.

What’s your favorite type of client?
I actually love clients who have a great sense of what they love! I adore making wedding cake dreams come true. Hearing everything they love helps me to get a great vision for what they’re going for. When I’m working with someone who has a really good idea of what they like and what they don’t, I can suggest things that I know they’ll love and know exactly the direction we’re going in! As we sketch the cake out and they begin to see it, their cake just gets better and better and more detailed and more unique! It’s so fun to make these types of cakes, because they often end up being 100% unique creations!
Can you tell us a little about your style?
My style is actually something I like to call “chameleon” HAHAHA! Honestly, I have to be able to do anything that anyone wants! Fondant, sculpted, art deco, rustic, hand painted, etc. I do them all. Now if you ask me what I prefer, I’d say I prefer wild and organic. Whimsical and ethereal. Something about the BOHO look really resonates with me. I also absolutely love the intentionally “messy” and “imperfect” trend happening now. For my whole 20 years as a decorator, smooth edges and clean sides and perfect lines were what we were aspiring to. The rustic trend brought us unpretentious and intentionally textured frosting that looked like maybe grandma could have decorated the cake. Then came the naked cakes! For my entire career, you were supposed to cover up the cake. (secret: we decorators have been making “naked” cakes forever!!! We just called it a “base coat” or “crumb coat”!!!) Now with the popularity of the royal wedding cake, the unclean edges have become popular, and I couldn’t love it more!!!! I absolutely love taking the things that used to be perceived as flaws (if your edge wasn’t smooth or your cake showed through) and making them the focal point of the cake. There’s just something about taking the ugly and highlighting it that makes it beautiful! (There’s a metaphor for life in here somewhere!)
Where is the most unique wedding cake you ever made?
OH! I have two! One was a french steamer trunk with a hat box on top for a couple who met in France! The other was a grooms cake for a couple who was slightly obsessed with the walking dead!
If you could give couple’s who are looking for a custom designed cake, once piece of advice, what would it be?
Have a reasonable budget. I always advise couples to go into their cake tasting and design session with a “no limits” attitude. Design exactly what you want with no thought of budget. You may be surprised at how affordable it can be. And once we’re done, if it’s outside of a reasonable budget, I now know what you love and what’s important, we can make some adjustments to try to meet the budget. You may be surprised at what we CAN do within budget! But NEVER scale anything back until you know you need to!
What do you love most about what you do?
I think what I love the most is that I get to be a part of someone’s legacy. Their new beginning. A whole new life where two become one. That life will lead to other little lives and this is where families begin! I love that what I get to do is to help them have a wonderful beginning! Many times, I offer my couples the option to have a free fresh baked anniversary tier after a year and so I get to see lots of them again! Many are pregnant and I get to do their baby cakes, then first birthdays and then sister’s weddings! Many of them become dear friends and I count it as such an honor to have gotten to play a part in it! I pray for each couple and each new beginning as I’m doing their cake and I get to ask God to bless these brand new unions! Does it even get any better than that?
