Justin and Rachel met summer before college during a dorm tour with their parents, though Rachel didn’t know it. Only a few words were exchanged before they parted ways, but fate brought them together again. They ended up in the same dorm, on the same floor, and met the day after moving in. Justin and his roommate hatched a plan to invite all the girls on their floor to go bowling on campus, and knocked on Rachel’s door. When half the girls realized they forgot their socks and retreated back to their rooms with Justin’s roommate in tow, Justin and Rachel formally met and got to know each other while he lost miserably to her at a game of Connect 4. Their friendship blossomed fast, and it was soon impossible to deny they had found their soulmate. They were genuine, silly, and fun together. Life was so full and so fun when experiencing it together. 6.5 Years passed before their relationship status changed again, but it feels like just yesterday when they laughed over mediocre meals in the dinning hall, newly in love.

My bridesmaids wore long, dusty blush dresses and groomsmen a pink floral tie with light grey suits. My husband wore a Navy Blue suit and dark floral tie. I wore an ivory, backless, lace fit and flare dress with beading along the straps, down the back of the dress and along the top, with a chapel length skirt. My dress was the 1,000th dress I tried on (at least thats what it felt like) and I chose it because it was on sale and 90% of what I wanted… but truly, it made me feel very beautiful and sexy and I could see Justin crying when he saw it. (of course he didn’t, but he got the biggest, goofiest, little kid smile ever!)

“We wanted a garden style wedding, a true celebration of our love and friendship with all the people that had guided us, and gotten to know us as a couple throughout the years. We decided on the central coast area because it was a special place for both of us; not only a place where lots of family resided, but a place where we felt home, with good memories, wonderful laughs, and pure joy. As soon as we walked onto The Grace Maralyn Estate and Gardens, we saw our perfect wedding. We saw lots of family and friends laughing and celebrating next to their custom bar… we saw so much love and tears shed in front of the wooden alter as we exchanged our vows… We saw dancing under the the stringed lights… While other venues were nice, this one was open and beautifully natural, exactly how we wanted. I envisioned lots of natural elements, lots of greenery, whites, light pinks, and gold.”

I wanted my bridal bouquet to be a delicate blend of pink with white and greenery. I wanted wild greenery, eucalyptus, and natural, romantic, delicate flowers. Not too pink, but enough to connect with the rest of our wedding colors and bring out the blush within my own dress. My bouquet had ranunculus, astilbe, garden rose, Lisanthus, dahlias peonies, and carnations… My bridesmaids bouquets were much smaller and only with white flowers.. the boutonnieres were white with blush ranunculus and astible, while my grooms boutonniere was slightly different. The centerpieces that we never got to set out because of the wind were garden roses (pink and white) with mixed greenery).

Advice from the bride:

Be clear with your bridal party what you want for your wedding and bridal planning experience. Many do not know how much money and time it takes, and be okay if they decide they just want to be a guest. I had a lot of bridesmaid drama from all the misunderstandings and at the end of the day, you want the people that love you and your husband to stand next to you and say they will support and love you through thick and thin… you don’t want them to stress about money or resent you for the money you are spending..

Don’t feel bad for spending money on what you want. Some people get married in their parents backyard or a courthouse so they can save for a house or spend extra on their honeymoon, and some spend lots of money on the party! Every version is beautiful and perfect and okay… some people may not understand why you’re spending money a certain way, but we all hope you only ever have one wedding with the love of your life, so make it perfect because you won’t have another chance!!
