Intimate Wedding at Baglio di Pianetto

This intimate wedding with 25 guests took place at Baglio di Pianetto in Italy. There was a beautiful, symbolic ceremony followed by a candle-lit dinner to celebrate. The couple did not want a band or over the top decorations. Just a simple, rustic, and beautiful celebration of their love.

How did you meet?

We met on the first day, my first job in NYC. That was that.

What is your proposal story?

He surprised me with a trip to St. Lucia for Valentine’s Day and proposed there with a beautiful antique ring from Erica Weiner, which specializes in heirloom and vintage jewelry in Brooklyn.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

My husband’s family on his mother’s side is Sicilian, and when his grandmother passed away, it was my first thought: we should get married in Sicily. We were going to elope, but then everybody wanted to come!

Tell us about your attire choices.

Originally, we were thinking City Hall, NYC, so I bought a vintage Prada lace dress. But then I fell in love with Cortana and when I researched how difficult they are to buy here, I found Leanne Marshall, and fell in love. Vintage, modern, romantic, feminine. I could not have felt more special.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?

We had to find the best place for the wedding, where everyone could stay, too. And it was perfect: great food, beautiful countryside, wonderful wines, areas where we could meet up in smaller groups or all hang out. Perfect

What were your favorite parts of the day?

That it was supposed to downpour—we were making contingency plans to have the ceremony in the wine cellar—but then it cleared up last-minute. And we managed to break away and write our vows last minute. And my husband’s cousin married us. In Sicily!

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

She did a beautiful job: unique, romantic, not bright or expected. Very personal.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

It collapsed! but our planner scrambled and got a replacement, with figs, semi-naked. just like I wanted.

What did you do for favors?

Wine from the Baglio.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

It was really important to me to have the wedding maps made, with the route for our travels to give everyone. And Aimee did a beautiful job but then they got held at customs, and she had to send a second shipment, which arrived the day of the wedding.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

My mom had gotten married in black and white spectator heels, and I found a beautiful pair, which I wore with the Prada dress for the rehearsal dinner.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

I don’t know that many have the nerve for what we did: planning everything from another continent, booking it all, sight unseen. Trying nothing, hoping for the best. But for us, that was part of the adventure, as was everyone traveling with us.
