Melissa and Andrew had a whimsical DIY wedding at The Inn At Stonecliffe. Because of their love for local Michigan Breweries, they incorporated their collection of growlers into the centerpieces. They also included fresh hops into their flower arrangements. Even though it rained they did an amazing job converting the tent into a beautiful ceremony space. Colorful accents in various shades of red, teal and pink were used throughout the day. So many thoughtful and inspiring details for DIY brides looking to add a personal touch to their day.

How they met: We met at Kettering University- Melissa started in 2008 and Drew started in 2009. Drew is a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and Melissa was friends with many of the Lambda Chi’s, so we knew of each other most of our time at Kettering. It wasn’t until 2012 that we shared a Fluid Dynamics class and ended up being partners for a class project. With some additional prodding from our friends, Melissa invited Drew to Alpha Phi Date Night that took place that Winter Semester, and a follow-up date happened shortly after. As they say, the rest is history!
The Proposal: Drew proposed to Melissa on July 2, 2014 on Mackinac Island, MI. We had planned a trip back to Michigan for the Fourth of July weekend to spend with Melissa’s family and decided we would go to Mackinac Island and then camping in Mackinaw City. Drew and Melissa’s family somehow kept the proposal a secret the entire time and Melissa had no idea it was coming!We arrived on Mackinac Island in the afternoon and Drew asked if Melissa wanted to go on a bike ride, just the two of them, before dinner at the Grand Hotel. Melissa thought it was a little odd that he didn’t want the rest of the family to come along, but she went along with it anyway. We biked around for about a half an hour, stopping at the West Bluff, which overlooks Lake Michigan and the Mackinac Bridge. While stopping to enjoy the views and a snack, Drew pulled the ring out of his backpack and proposed! In total surprise, Melissa responded with, “Are you serious!?!?” followed by a “YES!!”. We spent the rest of the night celebrating with my family at the Grand Hotel with an amazing dinner and drinks at the Cupola Bar.
