Lanai is one of the smallest Hawaiian islands but in spite of it’s size, it has some of the most amazing views we have ever seen.
Newly Engaged couple Brianna and Connor had just gotten engaged the month before and were enjoying their time on the island. They reached out to Vanessa Hicks Photography to help them capture their bliss in the most beautiful way possible. The result? A magical Hawaiian engagement session in paradise.
Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
We met in the dorm room we both lived in our freshmen year of college at Fordham University. We owe a lot to our mutual friend, Danny, who helped set us up!
What makes your relationship special? What makes your relationship unique?
What makes our relationship special is that because we are such polar opposites, we are constantly learning from one another and pushing each other to try new things we wouldn’t normally think to do. We are always dreaming and planning of what we want to achieve in life and together, know we can accomplish anything. We both also love to travel and try new foods. We actually spent a semester abroad together in London and traveled to 9 countries while we were there and we love New York City because there’s always a new type of cuisine to try!
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
We had been talking about our future and marriage for awhile, so the fact that Conor proposed wasn’t a surprise, but the fact that he did it when he did was! It was December in New York City, where we live together, and we had a date set to go see the tree in Rockefeller Center and then go to this beautiful Mediterranean restaurant right on the water, with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. After dinner, when we were back at our apartment getting ready for bed, Conor mentioned that our new kitten, Pimm, had gotten tangled in some string. I was completely clueless and bent down to untangle her, commenting on how I didn’t understand how she had managed to get the string tied around her in a perfect knot! Pimm managed to wriggle her way out of the string and there was the ring! It was the perfect proposal because we got to enjoy the moment, just the two of us, without a crowd, before we hoped on the phone to FaceTime everyone!
Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
We’re both so excited! We know for sure that we’ll be having the ceremony at the church at Fordham University, where we met. As for the reception, we don’t have anywhere set yet, but plan on having it somewhere in New York City, where we currently live.
