A Vibrant Wedding In St. John, Virgin Islands

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Stephanie and Jeffrey had a stunning wedding in Caneel Bay, St. John, Virgin Islands. The Ceremony was hosted on Turtle Point with a reception at The Turtle Bay Estate House. The vibrant colors were simply amazing!

Here is what the Bride (Stephanie) had to say about her special Virgin Islands wedding day:

How did you select Caneel Bay Resort for your big day? Stephanie vacationed at Caneel as a child and had such fond memories of it. We wanted an elegant yet relaxed location where we could spend an intimate weekend with our closest family and friends, and Caneel was the perfect location for this. The point and the estate house offered a private setting for our guests with impressive views and the perfect setup for dancing and dinner.

How many guests did you host? 71 guests

We love your color scheme, can you tell us more about it? We wanted neutrals with pops of bright pink and orange that stood out against the blue ocean and white sand. In picking the colors, we didn’t realize that they were the same as the gorgeous flamboyant trees that happened to be in bloom during our wedding, so the colors were perfect. We also wanted a contemporary look and feel with clean lines and simple decor.

What personal touches did you incorporate to make your decor unique? Jeffrey and I love to travel, and it played an important role in our relationship. We met on a business school trip to China and got engaged in Japan. All of the reception tables featured frames with names of places we have traveled to together and we incorporated a photo of the two of us at each location into the centerpiece along with floral décor.

How was your overall experience planning a destination wedding? We knew we couldn’t plan a destination wedding on our own. With our crazy work schedules, we couldn’t go there in person and navigate the vendor landscape. That’s why we decided to work with a planner and after interviewing several people, we felt Michelle of Paradise Planning had the best relationship with Caneel, could manage the vendors for us, and help our guests find the appropriate accommodations. I think we had the most fun putting together the playlist for the DJ and selecting the pictures for the table. Since I’m a foodie, I particularly enjoyed selecting the menu. Everyone raved about the food at the wedding.

How did you incorporate any local island touches? All of the guests received Welcome Bags upon their arrival to their accommodations that included local hot sauces as well as local maps. The bags were printed locally at Made in St. John, located in Mongoose Junction. For the cocktail hour, a steel pan musician was playing.

Did you plan any additional events for the group? Yes, we wanted to plan a fun weekend for our guests who traveled so far for our special day. Our planner Michelle helped us plan a great welcome event at the Beach Bar and we held our Rehearsal Dinner at Ocean Grill, located in Cruz Bay.
